I also swear I remember someone saying that there was gonna be split screen co-op for SR3 back before it was released, but we didn't get that either

They definitely did NOT promise split screen, that I can say for certain. Not sure about the firesuit, though.

How do you know? Have you read every single article out there? Have you watched every interview?

One of the videogame reviewers who played the SR3 demo, definately said that they would be including co-op split screen, maybe you didn't see that video. This was probably around August last year. But maybe you missed it, and maybe it was just one journalist. But apparently it was a rumor they made up.

I talked about this with someone on this site before, and they remembered them saying that too, so I know I'm not the only one who heard this

So maybe it was the article writer who decided to spread rumors. But, I mean you'd expect people who were exclusively selected to play an early release of the game to have some credibility

Of course I can't lay claim to having read every single article out there about SR3, but the ones I do remember reading, and this is going back to around a year ago and a little less, pre-release, said that co op would not be split screen because of the huge problems it would cause in trying to have two separate screens  from one machine rendering the two different perspectives, which would, in effect necessitate the machine being able to render two complete sandboxes.

As a rule, split screen games are almost never sandbox games, because the vast open worlds are difficult or impossible to render on one machine. So, say you and I were playing co op and I was at the airport in the Northeastern part of Steelport, and you were in Bridgeport, near the southwest area, it is asking a lot of one of our machines to run two complete open worlds simultaneously. Sandbox games are huge resource hogs and asking a 360 or PS3 to render two sandboxes at once, particularly with nice graphics, is a helluva lot.

That makes sense haha, especially cause they probably really try to push the engine for just single player alone, the framerate would probably drop significantly with splitscreen

But I'll try to find that review

This guy saw it too:
saintsrow.com/community/go/thread/view/1...

and I remember some other guy on here saying he saw it. Also, that guy said it was on IGN, and I remember it being IGN too, I'll keep looking but I bet they took it down, because it had false info in it.

Found it!

They say "there will be local co-op" at 7:25
youtu.be/ecQXBq06t4s

I'm guessing that they were referring to System Link

But Local Co-op and System Link are definitely not synonymous.

Local Co-op = multiple controllers plugging into one system (by definition). And that's what they said: Local co-op
System Link = LAN game

And on every other game, local co-op means the same system.

I know they were probably thinking and meant System Link, but they said the wrong words, but regardless, they are two separate things, and they said "local co-op"

So I was right, there definitely was an interview where they said there would be local co-op and the only way they do local co-op these days is though split screen.

It was just a bad choice of words on their behalf

Definitely a questionable choice of words. But in their defense, when I hear the term "local co op" I think in terms of linking systems together in the same dwelling rather than forcing people to log onto LIVE, for instance. To me, that does not infer split screen, though.
