I have had the game about a week now and have yet to be able to play it. First it wouldn't launch no matter what I did. Directx 9 or 10/11. Either way, you see the publisher screenshots like THQ, etc but when it comes time to load the in game menu, it crashes to desktop. Assuming it may be a display issue, I edited the display.ini file and there is a note in there mentioning to to set the ovverride between 1 and 5. After trying all of them multiple times, I was finally able to get the menu to load. Once loaded however, you click New Game, the select a difficulty, then it crashes back to the menu. Repeat. Mew Game, select difficult, back to the menu.

I am having the same exact problem as well. I'm redownloading and re-installing right now. Hopefully this fixes it....

Ooops - I forgot about that - I reinsalled twice as well. No luck.

I'm having the same issue as well. No real support whatsoever and I've basically spent £30 to watch the THQ logo flash on screen for a bit. From what I understand it's the games executable itself that is corrupted and constantly re-downloadeds every time you verify the game integrity via Steam.
Tried everything I can think of and been reading about the exact same issue other people are having yet still can't get as far as the game menu. First time in almost two decades of PC gaming that I've bought a game that's completely unplayable despite more than matching the system requirements. Awful quality on THQ's behalf.

A re-download and re-install fixed it for me.

I found this post over on the Steam forums which talks about the same problem:
"for what its worth, this is a problem with steamworks and THQ's implementation of it. typically if you have this problem with this game, you will have it with red faction armageddon as well. you would also have had it with space marine, but THQ finally fixed it for that, and i THINK they fixed it for homefront as well but im not sure as i never did buy it again to test after i got refunded, and probably wont.forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthrea... )
I have no idea how to fix it at this point but at least it describes the problem - something that in a week of having the game neither Steam nor THQ have deigned to do. I've already been seeking a refund through Steam but just get the stock "hur hur we don't refund broken stuff." THQ don't seem to care given the lack of support on this issue.

in my case, for all 3 games i mentioned (homefront, space marine, and rf armageddon) the cracked exe (and only the exe) along with the rest of the steam downloaded files allowed me to play just fine, demonstrating clearly that it was steamworks that was the problem, and not something else.
I have the exact same problem and have tried replacing it with a crack with no success. This is ****ing ridiculous.

Bump - so it joins the others - this is insane. I opened a case with supprt and was told "the developers are on vacation". After a launch ? WTF ?

That's just ****..
So nobody who bought the game on steam is able to play it and nobody cares..
