Huge Sound Problem: Async Car Sound

Not sure what you mean but there is not supposed to be a process list in the installation folder. If you want to view the processes that were accessible by PM go to View -> Show Process List. It will split the main view in half and the top half is a list of the available processes. If you have Saints Row running in the background it should be in that list. Most likely as saintsrowthethird.exe. You can then right-click that process and select Create Rule. That will automatically fill in the match string field as I mentioned in the instructions posted earlier.

Also, if you're trying to fix the surround sound problem with this it will probably not work. This thread is about the car sound sync problem and as far as I know my program will only fix that specific problem. Not saying it's pointless to try but I personally think SR just doesn't support surround sounds.

Edit: Also, as I mentioned in my earlier post, run PM as an Administrator if it doesn't see any processes.

Appreciate everyone's assistance with the workarounds but is there someone from Volition paying any attention to this thread?  Ideally this should be in the next patch.  I'm loving the game, but I have very soft vehicle sounds and some character dialogue from the supporting characters is very soft (almost inaudible).  Oddly, motorbikes seem OK.  I meet the minimum specs, I have onboard sound and I am just running 2.1 stereo.

I'm also playing in DX 10/11.

Hopefully one of you guys may be able to assist.

A new patch was just released (source). Change log suggests something was done in regards to sounds:

- General sound optimizations.

I'll disable the fix applied by my application and see what Saints Row says about that. Editing this post with results ASAP.

Edit: That's a negative, sounds are still out of sync without the fix. Oh well, all the same to me.

Hi, guys I'm a newly graduated software engineer from sweden and I had the same problem as you guys. I did some tests and found ut that there is a defect in the game causing sound/video sync to go out of control if you have your computer the slightest OVERCLOCKED. I'm putting it in bold so nobody misses it. Please return your overclocking settings to normal for the CPU + anything else that you have tampered with and I think you'll be better off. That also include the EPU-6 Engine and anything simmilar. Hope it works =) Hej då Wink

I do not understand how that could be possible. I'm under the impression that this is a threading problem and more specifically a thread priority or timer precision problem. Especially since the timeBeginPeriod function I posted on page 2 fixes the problem completely.

...but to contribute to and perhaps confirm your theory, my GPU is stock-overclocked by ASUS.

Basically I reverse engineered it but I dident find the defect, so I wrote a quick program to do some tests in game. It confirmed that the frames/sound sync got worse and even other in game sounds like car sound got more messed up the higher the CPU frequency. So I turned all overclocking off and the game went perfectly. Might also relay/confirm your theory with the timer/priority... makes you wonder. I became a member here just to post a possible solution for this problem... maybe it will help someone. Don't really care about the game =)

And of course if someone reading this post still has problem after trying this. Please make sure that you update graphics/sound driver to the newest version. Might save you some pain ! Wink

I have major issues iwth the audio on PS3.

Firstly when ppl speak i have 2 options.

They are muffled and only loud if i turn to face a particular direction (which would make sense if that direction was to face towards the person) this also happens in cars. first mission after you are ok to free roam you call some dude who takes you shopping.. I cannot hear him at all. I have to have subtitles on.

I've played with the audio options, voice is max, music is 0%   FX is off. still cannot hear.

Secondly those charecters you can hear (mainly yourself) stutter like they're in a bath of ice. they often get half a line out, then the music on the radio is too loud etc and then they finish the line.
I've tried all kinds of different settings, and music off seems to be the only way to fix this.

Worse yet if i have music ONLY on, and fx and voice off, the songs stutter like mad.. passers by yell comments and the songs still cut out!

GTA 4 toned down the music when ppl spoke, can't see  an option for that in this game..

Anyone know how to fix this? I can't imagine the game audio was supposed to be this buggy?

Should mention I'm on a PS3, with hdmi audio to my Sony bravia W5500, and Sony surround sound 5:1 also via HDMI.
Have no audio issues with ANY other games.  even tried with optical, same system.

Other than that loving the game =)
