Gamespy has announced that they will be shutting down all multiplayer servers on May 31, 2014. This shutdown will affect hundreds of games that use their service for matchmaking, including Saints Row 2’s co-op and competitive multiplayer modes. While we are still looking at alternate solutions, here’s currently what the shutdown will mean for Saints Row 2 on all three platforms.

Saints Row 2 PS3 LAN Play will still work correctly after the shutdown, but matchmaking and online will no longer function.

Saints Row 2 PC LAN options for coop and multiplayer will also still continue to work, but online will not. Many PC players have reported successfully connecting and playing online using virtual LAN software like Evolve or Tunngle which do not require a connection to Gamespy servers. We plan on testing and releasing a step-by-step connection guide before the actual shutdown date so PC players can continue to play online using this method.

The Xbox 360 version of Saints Row 2 uses Xbox Live for matchmaking and is completely unaffected by the upcoming Gamespy server shutdown.

So I'm guessing this means I won't be able to play with my friend through PSN anymore?

Figured that out by yourself? :P

Well it was going to happen eventually, I'm just surprized it lasted this long. Can't say I feel sorry for SR2, since on PC at least it was so laggy and buggy it was unplayable 90% of the time, but there are still a lot of games that relied on GameSpy...

(Finally, i can connect here!! I had hard time yesterday! :p)

I'm so sad! :( I couldn't play the online a lot as my friends who bought it always tell me they wanna play SR3 and IV first... which make that they have no time for this one.

Isn't it possible to make a DLC which would let people play in the same room and on the same TV together? (That's something i would be ready to pay for, for once)
DLC which would be available for SR3 and IV too. So that more people would be fine with that.

Don't wanna be forced to pay Xbox live to play SR2 online...!

For someone so snarky I'm surprised that you couldn't be arsed to download the Gentlemen of the Row mod that IdolNinja made in order to make the game more playable on the PC. Nevertheless, PC people still have a work around so I don't think they really have a right to complain.

I really hope they can find a work around for every person effected by this, because there are actual people out there who actually still like to play this game with friends. Surprise, surprise huh? Seems like the only people who are really being screwed over by this whole thing are the PS3 people.

It's a bummer that Gamespy will be shutting down their multiplayer servers for the games that use the service for online co-op and competitive multiplayer. Frown

It was fun while it lasted because I did briefly get to try out the multiplayer of Saints Row 2 and co-oped with another player when I first played it on the Xbox 360.

"There's nothing to be worried or stressed because I am gonna be alright. "

Hi, I'm new around here and I've only just started to play the Saint's Row games. So, it's a certainty that the Xbox 360 version will be unaffected by this? I only ask because I'm not sure how to distinguish between another user and a moderator on these forums. Is it the "V_Name" format on the account names? I just wanted to be sure about who is an official source.
